Dear Emilie,
Welcome to CROWD TALKS!
A collective archive shared with fashionable CROWD people we admire and find great inspiration from, please find your questions below.
Working as the Store Director & Buyer @Store51, could you share your professional journey in the fashion industry?
My Journey is still quite new. I started off working in fashion full time 4 years ago. There’s a lot to learn from an industry in constant pulse and change. It’s an interesting field, partly because fashion is not particularly something you can learn. You either got something from a natural instinct or interest, or you don’t. It may sound harsh, but you need to have somewhat of a clear vision about the direction you want to go. You have to mean something.
You have a very personal style, and we of course need to know; where do you find inspiration? And what is your best styling advice? Please share.
Sure, I find inspiration through social media like Instagram and Pinterest as many others. I get inspired by individuals more than brands. I got an eye for the twisted, bit crooked universe. Imperfect perfection.
My best styling advice is to wear whatever you feel comfortable in. It may be a cliché answer, but an outfit is a way to express your feelings, and if you’re not comfortable it outshines through your aura.
When my boyfriend and I first met, he gave me a styling advice that I always come back to. “If you can master more than one style, then you got style”. Finding your own personal style can be changeling especially in today’s society with constant inputs from social media. I don’t prefer to label my personal style a specific category - I got multiple.
Some days I will be sporty, others I will be classic or more feminine. It all depends on my mood for the day. Some days I will wear no make up, others I will draw a green eyeliner over my eyes. But I will always stay true to myself.
How do you believe we can incorporate a sustainable mindset in our everyday wardrobe?
Buy less, buy better. I personally try to avoid fast fashion and shop second hand when I do. My preferred second hand shop is Vestiaire Collective.
My personal analogy is that there are around 10 styles for men and 20 for women. Styles that you can pull out your whole life and they will always be in fashion. A white mens-wear oversize button down shirt, and a high-waisted straight-legged pant with pleats, are always sexy to a woman, with a pair of high heels. If you stick to the classics you will have them for years on end. I incorporated at Store 51 that despite of seasonal change, our buying perspective would always contain the 20 classic styles.
And finally, how do you disconnect and are you good at being present?
The ultimate disconnection for me is whenever I go riding my horse. Anyone who knows me well knows, that when I’m out riding, no one can expect to get in touch with me. I never have a bad day after a morning in the stables.
Being more present is still something I have to become better at. My boyfriend and I live a very social life, almost too social at times. I’m slowly finding my rhythm in an ambitious world.
Thanks dearest Emilie for participating and being a great inspiration to us!
Sincerely,
CROWD CPH
